The encounter broke out after a police vehicle carrying Vikas Dubey from Ujjain to Kanpur met with an accident and the gangster attempted to escape. Vikas suffered a few bullets shots in the retaliatory fire after police asked him to surrender and he did not. Vikas Dubey was taken to a Kanpur hospital where doctors declared him dead.
