This is a playthrough of single player mode using Jade in the Sega 32X version of Mortal Kombat II. Read on below for more information... Jade is a hidden CPU-only opponent in the game, and she is a non-selectable character. ===== ABOUT JADE & 32X VERSION OF HER ===== As you know, Jade has been an unplayable/non-selectable hidden character in all official versions of MKII. Even if you used external methods to select her and the player tried controlling her, it would cause the game to freeze, making it somewhat pointless unless you did it for curiosity purposes. Literally anything you did with her caused the game to crash, and this applies especially to the Arcade and SNES versions. The 32X version of MK2 Jade however, is a bit different because under human control, she is far more "lenient" than the Arcade and SNES versions of her. Being a semi-clone of the regular character Kitana means that she has the structure of a regular character so you won't get the sprite/animation problems you would have with Kintaro and Shao Kahn. This means that you can actually *almost* play her completely like a regular character without the game freezing, making it possible to actually beat the game with her in single-player mode, as long as you're careful and AVOID doing the few things which can crash the game! Jade is by far the BEST of the non-playable hidden characters to control given how she actually has available "special moves" which some of them are effective against her opponents! Here is more detailed information: ===== ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ===== ---- Despite being an unplayable character, she actually has 4 "special moves" available when controlled by a human player, as follows: - Kitana's Fan Throw. This works perfectly and is the same one the CPU Jade uses! Command to use it is Forward, Forward + LP + HP (same as Kitana's one). - A glitched version of Kitana's Square Wave Punch. When performed, Jade uses her crouching sprites during the move. It CAN hit the opponent because Jade will do the air punch only if there is contact with an opponent in the air. Also great for getting out of corners. Command to use this is Half-Circle-Back, no button needed. - A glitched "special move" where she keeps walking on the spot. Does not hurt the opponent. This is most likely Kitana's Fan Lift move but it cannot progress. When Jade is doing the walking-on-the-spot she needs to be hit out of it to regain control. Command to use this is Back, Back, Back, no button needed. - A glitched air "special move" where she goes into her neutral stance in the air. Does not hurt the opponent. This is most likely Kitana's Air Fan Toss move but it cannot progress. When Jade is doing air neutral stance she needs to be hit out of it to regain control. Command to do this is Forward, Forward + LP+HP in the air. You can see this against Shao Kahn in the video. ---- She is invulnerable to projectile attacks, just like the CPU Jade. ---- She receives general lower damage than the regular characters. ---- Her close-up LK or HK (where she knees the opponent) has a long delay before recovering. ---- Her Throw seems to have ridiculous priority that it's almost like a special move. ---- If Jade is in a match, the text "Now You Must Return To The Outworld" will appear after she wins or gets defeated. ---- She can actually appear perfectly on the character select screen, and she even has the proper pose when you confirm her. The announcer also says her name as well! ---- She can appear on other stage backgrounds, which is unusual because in some other versions of the game she is locked to the Goro's Lair stage whenever she is in a match. ---- Her icon on the "Battle Plan" screen is glitched. This is perhaps strange because she actually has a proper icon on the ladder (the [?] icon). ---- If you manage to beat the game with her, the game will crash because she does not have an ending programmed in. ---- Due to her special move commands, it is clear that they created Jade using Kitana as the base character. ---- Her skin colour appears to be much lighter tanned than the Arcade and SNES versions of her. ===== ABOUT 32X MKII ===== The 32X version of MK2 shows a number of improvements over the Genesis version, mainly in the graphics department. The lifebars were made to look closer to the arcade ones, and the use of the 32X's improved colour palette makes the game look much better overall. Also, more voice samples were added, such as the announcer calling out character names. However, there are still a lot of missing animations (for jump kicks, etc.), and the music/sound is exactly the same as the Genesis version. It is still not as good as the SNES version in my view.
