It is usually made during festivals like Diwali, Tihar, Onam, Pongal and other Hindu festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Gudi Padawa, Navaratri, Makar Sankranti, Padawa, Tulasi Vivah, Lakshmi Pujan,Durga Puja, Birthdays, 15 August i.e. Independence Day, 26 January i.e. Republic Day etc etc. In hindu culture Rangoli has enormous importance. Every day females made simple and easy Rangoli in front of Tulasi and Home. While festive seasons, everybody is making colorful Rangoli Designs. To welcome guest, peoples are making border Rangoli Design. The Purpose of Rangoli is to feel strength, generosity, special and to bring good luck. Rangoli is India’s tradition. The various names for this art form – 1. Muggu (ముగ్గు) - in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana 2. Rangoli / rangole (ರಂಗೋಲಿ/ರಂಗೋಲೆ ) – in Karnataka 3. Kolam (கோலம் ) - in Tamil Nadu 4. Mandanalmandas (माँडना ) – in Rajasthan 5. Chowkpurana ( छोवकपुराणा ) – in Chhattisgarh 6. Alpanalalpona ( আল্পনা ) – in West Bengal 7. Murujalmarje (मूर्जा ) or Jhoti (झोटी) or Chita (चिता) – in Odisha 8. Haripanlaripan (आरिपना) – in Bihar 9. Chowkpujan (चौकपूजन) – in Uttar Pradesh 10. Chowk Poorana – in Punjab 11. Pookkalam (പൂക്കളം) – in Kerala 12. Rangoli / Sanskarbharati – in Maharashtra 13. Saathiyalgahuli – in Gujarat 14. Aipanleipan (ऐपण) – in Uttarakhand Generally women get up early in the morning and clean the areajust outside of entrance of their house and draw simple and easy colorful rangoli with dots. Some major symbols used in Rangoli are the lotus flower rangoli design, leaves, mango, fish rangoli design, bird like parrot, swans and peacocks rangoli design. Some special patterns of Diwali Rangoli are the Diya also called as Deep, Ganesha Rangoli , Ganapati Rangoli, Lakshmi Pujan Rangoli. Major time females use white color rangoli for making rangoli designs but on festive season women made colorful rangoli for making rangoli designs.
