@emmalarson67394 years ago the issue with the peanut allergy analogy is that they don't disclose and actively campaign against the fact that people can be allergic to their products. @adrienne76714 years ago The patch-test study was conducted on 50 "volunteers" (who may or may not have been market partners), for 45 days. It was the first "study" on humans, of final monat product formulas, and it wasn't conducted until 4+ years after product launch. Every other "scientific study" cited by the company prior to this, was either on specific ingredients like capixyl, or of final products on hair extensions (not human scalps). Try explaining this to new market partners though, and you'll get blocked quick. I gave up circa 2018... ... 19

@vanessaramirez54184 years ago Adding to what you said about the FTC and product claims... Its also the FDA, I believe. Products that claim to alter the physiology or function of any part of the body are classified as drugs, so cosmetics can't make those claims. Its why all that language about "reduces the appearance of" and "supports the look of" is out there. Its also why "clinical trials" are usually really unscientific... if they prove their product does in fact perform like a drug, then it would be subject to safety testing and stricter regulation than cosmetic products. ... 33

@CRouillier4 years ago So I looked into this Dr. Tonti. She has 750 publications which is highly unusual for any academic. I haven't looked through these publications, but I would guess she has many publications in pay-to-publish journals. @alexisp6214 years ago If any CEO acted this way when they read that people don’t trust or like their brand, they would most likely not be where they are today. @roguestowl22804 years ago That “world congress of hair” thing- Kimyrleigha was explaining this- all she’s talking about is that someone from Monat stood in front of a poster at a booth at a convention. So... not a big deal. And yeah, if I remember correctly, they did a case study- meaning, there was SOMEONE whose hair didn’t fall out when they used Monat. It means nothing ... 11

  • @
@airteach47524 years ago Ok, so I looked at the BusinessWire article for this 'featured at the World Congress of Hair' because the article you showed us said the results were 'unveiled' which isn't a presentation aspect of a scientific conference. Unveiled can mean different things and in my experience, usually means it hasn't been peer reviewed yet.
FIRST: It wasn't a talk. She wasn't a keynote speaker, this wasn't 'featured.' It was a fucking poster during the exhibition aspect of the conference as people walked by like a high school science fair. Per the website for the 'World Congress of Hair Reseach' you have to PAY for their exhibition like you are a vendor. We know it was a poster, because it is mentioned SEVERAL times in the article and mentioned by the researcher herself!
SECOND: It says in the BW article that the study was done by Monat, and presented by: Dr. Tosti. Lucienne Skalski Campos, Global Regulatory Affairs Sr. Manager and Jamie S. Ross, Head of R&D for Monat. All three are working for the company! This was done by Monat, so how do we know it was scientifically accurate?! This woman may be a doctor and have publications behind her, but we don't know what kind! The number one thing they list as her accomplishments in the articles is that she is an EDITOR for textbooks on these things.

This makes the term truth subjective which it’s not and neither are facts. ... 30

@realisticpenguin70034 years ago This is so timely! Kymberleigha has a GREAT video on this. She went through the same questions and was able to see where the #1 claim comes from. She also discussed the "World Council of Hair Care". You PAY to go to this conference. ANYONE can submit presentations to this Council and present any information that's not thoroughly researched.
Also, she agreed with you on the fact that Dr. Tosti (the expert that stated this information) is on their board. This of course means that she is only going to present positive information. Definitely go watch her video, she answers all these questions :)
